So, my last post was a little all over the place I realize. But that is sort of how everything has been in the last 3 days of being in Bangkok. My head is spinning and I feel like I have lived a lifetime here..its amazing! Mom and I started 3 days ago a little intimdated of our surroundings. We are staying in the most amaaaaazing hotel and it felt like a safe little nook. But once we walked out the door I just wanted to do and see everything, even on 3 hours of sleep. We went to the Emerald Temple and the Reclining Buddah. Everywhere we went just got better and better and I had to take more and more artsy photos (I am a professional photog. in my mind). We are getting everywhere using the train and river boats. They were suprisingly easy and after I took a breath I realized I could get us anywhere with a map in hand. Anyone that has traveled with me can attest to the fact that I am obsessed with all public transportation and secretly like getting lost so I can find my way back. That mi...
If you would like to imagine what a normal backdrop of sound has been in Guatemala, it is constant popping and mini-explosions from fireworks. Having lived with these jarring cracks, I knew that New Years was not going to be a quiet one. We walked through the streets with the excitement building each hour. There were some local performers on stilts performing moves that I was praying came with crash pads below them. It was actually relatively calm and cool until 10pm when the fireworks started. They basically strap fireworks to their backs and run around until they go out. I imagine its what I would look like if my hair caught on fire. We went to the main square to be a part of the action. We had to be on constant guard because sparklers and mini-bombs were being ...
I made it out alive, no more Ho Chi Mihn for me, thank you. I actually started to get a little used to turning my brain off when I hit the streets there and dodging motorbikes became only really scary instead of ready-to-give-me-a-heart-attack terrifying. Meeting wonderful people in Saigon made it much better, thanks to one of my new friends Terry! There were about 5 plates of delicious food on the table, obviously we couldnt be bothered with taking a picture before eating. I took an overnight train and arrived in Nha Trang where I ran back to the peace of the beach. I shared the waves and some delicious home cooked food with some great people from all over. Nothing like some bbq'd clams to make up for the rise in blood pressure from Saigon. Some new friends! I also sampled a little Vietnam nightlife. The dancing was much better than the drinks, as shown here with my new Scottie, Neil. I am swimming in accents and it takes every bone in my body to hold me back from speaking ...
